The HbA1c test reveals your average blood sugar levels over the past few months because red blood cells have a lifespan of about three months. Unlike a standard blood sugar test, this test isn't influenced by short-term changes, like a recent sugary snack.
Therefore, a good HbA1c result indicates effective blood sugar control, even if you've occasionally had high blood sugar levels.
However, if your HbA1c result is high, it may suggest you have pre-diabetes or diabetes.
